Abstract
The nomenclature used in comparative genomics, tools and measures on comparative mapping, gene families and the definition of orthologues and paralogues, evolution of sex chromosomes, comparative maps between birds and mammals, conservation of gene order between birds and mammals, genomes evolve at different rates, deducing the ancestral vertebrate genome and the future of comparative genomes are discussed.
