Abstract
A new distribution map is provided for Tomato torrado virus (Secoviridae: Torradovirus). The hosts include tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and several weed species (Amaranthaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Brassicaceae, Malvaceae and Polygonaceae). Information is given on the geographical distribution in Europe (France, Hungary, Poland, Spain, Canary Islands and mainland Spain), Central America and Caribbean (Panama) and Oceania (Australia, South Australia). Symptoms of 'cribado' or 'torrado' disease have been observed in Almeria (Andalucia), Alcante (Communidad Valenciana) and Baleares (Mallorca), Spain, but the presence of Tomato torrado virus has not been confirmed by testing in these regions. However, this might suggest that the virus could be more widespread than originally thought. Preliminary transmission trials strongly suggest that Tomato torrado virus can be vectored by Bemisia tabaci and Trialeurodes vaporariorum.
