Abstract
This chapter focuses on the detection of fungal plant pathogens using direct visual examination of symptoms to check for fungal structures (signs) and methods to help their detection by inducing fungal growth and sporulation. Some protocols for incubating diseased samples in damp chambers, isolation from leaves, stems, flowers and fruits, baiting, quantitative assessment of fungal colonies from soil, spore trapping, quantification of microsclerotia of Verticillium dahliae in soil and establishing Koch's postulates are also presented.
