Abstract
This chapter focuses on the global incidence, importance and physiological specialization of the common bunt of wheat, caused by Tilletia caries and T. laevis. The various genetic, morphological and biochemical bases for the screening of resistance sources are discussed and some genetic engineering approaches are highlighted.
