Abstract
This chapter discusses the four factors which affects the concentration of minerals in plants (from were feeds are made) namely: plant genotype, soil environment, climate, and stage of maturity. The effect of crop or pasture husbandry which includes the use of fertilizers, soil amendments, irrigation, crop rotation, intercropping, and high yielding cultivars were also presented. Other sources of minerals such as crop and animal byproducts, milk, drinking water were also discussed. A table on the mineral concentrations of browse species (Acacia nilotica, A. tortilis, Balanites aegyptiaca, Cryptolepis africana, Ficus sycomorus, Lantana camara, Lawsonia inermis, Senna siamea, and Trichilia emetica) was also presented.
