Integrated pest management with the sterile insect technique.

Abstract

This chapter covers the eradication of screwworm (Cochliomyia hominivorax), fruit fly, insect pests infesting Citrus in Texas, USA, and codling moth (Helicoverpa armigera) in Western North America using sterile insect release (SIT). The incorporation of SIT in integrated pest management programmes to control pests of crops is also discussed.
