Abstract

This chapter focuses on the gendered perception of women in Italy. It explores the beach as a stage for 'tanning' performance, to study cultural issues of female body and identity in Italy. The chapter strives to portray the extent to which women's bodies reflect the pressures of their society, the power of the media, the prevalent male gaze and what is expected of them in this context.
