AbstractEngaging with the post-structuralist framework of embodiment, this chapter presents the autho-ethnographic narratives of two authors with considerable tourism (research) experience in southeastern Europe, specifically Croatia and Albania. The embodiment framework is used to understand the role of tourism in transforming the identities and roles of women and men in the Balkans, focusing particularly on the cultural construction and communication of femininity and masculinity in tourism practices and experiences, driving gendered performances and multiple subjectivities. Differences between the Croatian and Albanian experiences are highlighted.
