Abstract
This book explores the characteristics, tourist/leisure behaviours and tourism/leisure needs of older people, and how to effectively market to this expanding group in the future. The book's chapters examine: the motivations and constraints to tourism and leisure for older adults; sociodemographic variables associated with tourism, leisure and ageing; contemporary trends in international tourism and travel for older adults; information sources on tourism and travel for older people; modes of tourism and leisure travel by older adults; and the particular tourism and leisure needs of older adults in retirement communities. Also explored are different travel markets for the elderly, including group package tours, adventure tourism and educational tourism. The book has 11 chapters and a subject index.
