AbstractThis paper outlines the principal signalling events regulating floral development, focusing on the internal biochemical and genetic pathways and highlighting the biochemical steps that occur following reception of the signal and which ultimately lead to altered gene expression and enzyme activity. Biochemical (hormones, enzymes and receptors) and genetic factors (genes and transcription factors) implicated in flowering are also discussed.
