AbstractA discussion on the pathogenesis, pathophysiology and complications of diabetes is presented, including a discussion on the dietary management of this disease. The effects of dietary monoenoic fatty acids on insulin sensitivity, carbohydrate metabolism, risk of diabetes, body weight, body fat distribution, lipid metabolism and endothelial function are also discussed.
