Abstract

Abstract A new species of deep-sea shrimp, Bathypalaemonella liui sp. nov., is described from the seamount of the South China Sea at a depth of 759–1117 m. Bathypalaemonella liui sp. nov. is most similar to B. hayashi Komai, 1995 and B. serratipalma Pequegnat, 1970 for the flexor margin of the major second pereopod bearing a row of tubercles. Important morphological characters which differentiate the present new species from B. hayashi and B. serratipalma are the length of the rostrum, which is far exceeding the scaphocerite, and the dactylus of the posterior three pereopods, which only bear one pair of accessory spines. Moreover, the genetic divergences of the COI and 16S rRNA genes from these two congeners analysed, clearly support the new taxon.
