Abstract

CME Educational Objectives 1. Discuss the importance of recognizing organic cause of mental illness, such as hypothyroidism, especially in late-onset psychiatric presentations. 2. Explain prevalence of hypothyroidism and its association with variety of psychiatric illnesses. 3. Identify the signs and symptoms, diagnostic laboratory testing, and management of hypothyroidism, which may lead to full remission of psychiatric symptoms, unless there is comorbid primary psychiatric disorder needing additional psychiatric management.
