Abstract
Background:
Because of the growth of nursing care in ambulatory clinics, nursing education and professional development needs have increased.
Method:
At one academic medical center, development of a combined centralized-decentralized nursing professional development model addressed the needs of this expansion.
Results:
Hiring dedicated nursing professional development staff for prioritized education programs improves throughputs and outputs associated with nursing professional development.
Conclusion:
Implementation of unit-based clinic rounding has improved staff engagement with education, professional development, and quality outcomes.
