Abstract
The first 3 wk in May was the optimum time for planting faba beans. After this, yields tended to decrease, partly the result of lower numbers of pods per plant. Swathing could be safely carried out when 30% of the plants in a plot had the lowest pods blackening. At this point, yield had stabilized and seed germination and seeding vigor were not adversely affected.
