Abstract
The effect of different levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers on yield, grade index, crop index and maturity index of flue-cured tobacco was studied. The experiment was conducted during 1973 and 1974, in l’Assomption county, Province of Quebec on a Soulanges sandy loam and an Uplands sand. Nitrogen increased yield and decreased the grade index more than phosphorus or potassium. When applied at 20 kg/ha the crop index was increased. All levels of nitrogen did not influence the maturity index. Phosphorus had no effect on yield or grade index; however, an application of 49 kg/ha on the Uplands sand had a marked effect on the crop index. Phosphorus increased the maturity index on both soils. An application of 93 kg/ha of potassium increased yield, grade index and crop index but did not influence maturity index.
