Abstract
Isotope kinetic studies in silage-fed sheep showed that while acetate was the major end-product of lactate metabolism, the molar proportion of propionate produced from lactate was higher than from other fermentable components of the silage. Lactate did not contribute directly to glucose synthesis but did via propionate. Key words: Sheep, lactate, silage
