Abstract
The apparent reesterification of fatty acids released during lipolysis in undernourished pregnant ewes was extensive (397–682 g/day) and could account for up to 35% of maternal glucose production for the synthesis of glycerol-3-phosphate. The percentage of NEFA oxidized ranged from 54 to 65% whilst that of acetate increased from 67 to 98% in the late stages of pregnancy. Key words: Fatty acids, undernourished, pregnant ewes
