Abstract
A procedure involving equilibration of soil with 0.40 M acetic acid (normally used to estimate lime) was used instead to monitor changes in acid-buffering capacity of topsoil, in an area exposed to acid emissions. Samples taken from 15 sites in 1997 were analyzed together with matching samples taken in 1992. The procedure detected a smaller acid-buffering capacity in 1997 than in 1992 at two sites. Key words: Acid buffering capacity, acid emissions, lime
