Abstract
Treatment of strawberry roots with a solution of potassium permanganate, and a gradual increase in temperature made it possible to subject several strawberry varieties to 48 °C. Plants placed in a heat chamber and heated to 46.5 °C tested free of latent C virus. Some varieties of strawberry could be freed of both latent C and veinbanding viruses at 48 °C, while other varieties did not tolerate this temperature. It was concluded that latent C was inactivated at 46.5 °C and veinbanding at 48 °C.
