Abstract
The hypothesis that yield of grain per plant is proportional to the photosynthetic area above the flag-leaf node was tested on 120 varieties of wheat under greenhouse conditions. High, positive correlation coefficients were obtained between grain weight and the components of photosynthetic area above the flag-leaf node, both on a per tiller and per plant basis.
