Abstract
Antidepressives are widely used in the management of depression and are often prescribed for many years.1 Withdrawal phenomena on stopping antidepressives after long-term treatment have now been described. They may be confused with a recurrence of depression, panic or other symptoms for which the drug was originally prescribed. Here we discuss such problems and how to deal with them. Another article will discuss when to withdraw antidepressives.
