2. Radiotherapy might well help-though its long term benefit is questionable. After the Doll report on the increased incidence of leukaemia following irradiation for ankylosing spondylitis, this form of treatment almost ceased. For reasons which remain obscure, however, irradiation does help certain people with seronegative arthritis. The pendulum has begun to swing back to its localised use-particularly for the intractable Achilles or plantar fasciitis mentioned in the question.
