1. In the population eligible for analysis, we identified 500 newly diagnosed cases of diverticular disease. Of these, 382 were classified as symptomatic (presenting with pain, change in bowel habits, or bleeding),30 and 118 cases were classified as asymptomatic (the diverticula were discovered during a routine screening).
