Abstract
From the point of view of the development of
current economies and, first of all, ensuring the continuous
growth of well-being, the sustained increase in labor productivity
is important. However, what factors influence the change in
productivity? They are numerous, and one of them is certainly
innovation which continues to radically change the life of
humanity in the 21st century. Therefore, the impact of changes
in the Global Innovation Index, which describes the level of
innovation development of countries, on labor productivity is of
great interest. The paper analyzed data from 125 countries
included in the research of the World Intellectual Property
Organization as of 2022. Countries were grouped by income.
The results of the econometric analysis showed that an increase
in the Global Innovation Index by one percentage point leads to
an increase in labor productivity in the groups of low, mediumlow, medium-high and high-income countries by 0.08, 0.37,
0.57 and 0.73% respectively. Thus, the level of development of
innovation systems in low-income countries has almost no effect on labor productivity, while in high-income countries this effect
is the greatest.
