Abstract
Nyquist is a compiler that was developed by computer researcher Roger B. Dannenberg, and it is frequently used in music composition and synthesis programming. The significance of investigating these three functions (fractal, frequency modulation and vibrato) in Nyquist is to introduce the basic principles behind each function, which could be then applied to other software as well. This paper presents three perspectives that could be achieved by the functions in Nyquist and illustrates their functions from illustrating the similarities and differences through graphs and descriptions. By combining pseudo codes and description, the distinction could be more apparently and comprehensively presented. During my research and development phase of Nyquist and its application, Nyquist Reference Manual is referred, with which scholars can basically achieve any effects in their scores or pieces by referring to it. These results can surely help substantially understand more about Nyquist, the principles behind its functions, and possible application the concepts into any other programming environments.
