Abstract
Abstract
Background
Lipomas are considered to be the most common benign mesenchymal neoplasm which can originate from any fatty tissue. Only 13% of lipomas are present in the head and neck region where the posterior triangle of the neck is the most common site.
Case presentation
Giant lipomas > 10 cm involving the anterior triangle of the neck with para- and retropharyngeal extension are rarely seen. We report a 59-year-old male patient with giant anterior neck space lipoma 13 × 7.5 × 3.5 cm with medial extension to the retropharyngeal space which was surgically excised.
Conclusions
Giant anterior neck lipomas are very challenging in excision compared to posterior neck ones. ENT surgeons should keep lipomas in mind when dealing with anterior neck lesions. Complete surgical excision is the best treatment modality.
