Abstract
The basal spontaneous pancreatic secretion of a chronic pancreatic fistula rat weighing 300–400 gm is approximately 0.33 ml/hr. The mean hourly amylase output is about 4400 mg maltose equivalents. Oral feeding, gastric feeding and sham feeding of a commercial dog food significantly increased the volume flow and the hourly amylase output of rats with pancreatic fistula. Sham feeding did not have this effect on rats provided with a gastric fistula or after vagotomy.
