Abstract
A significant decrease in the concentration of the free fatty acids of the plasma of nondiabetic or alloxan-diabetic dogs was produced by the intravenous injection of oxytocin, desamino-oxytocin, 3-valine-oxytocin, 2-phenylalanine-oxytocin, arginine-vasopressin, lysine-vasopressin or 2-phenylalanine-8-lysine-vasopressin. The effect is dependent upon the integrity of the disulfide bridge of the various peptides and is attributed to an insulin-like action on adipose tissues.
