Abstract
The activation of thrombolysis by streptokinase in the cat has been studied by the measurement of multiple parameters. It is postulated that streptokinase in optimal dosage will directly activate plasminogen to plasmin, and that an excess of streptokinase will combine stoichiometrically with this plasmin to form activator. It is also suggested that fibrinogen may act as a transfer vehicle for activator, releasing it in response to a falling concentration of the plasmin or when fibrinogen is converted to fibrin. It appears that the level of fibrinogen in cats measured by the method of Quick is dependent on the concentration of activator in the plasma sample.
