Abstract
Physical properties and disposal by the dog's kidney of salicyluric ( o-hydroxyhippuric), p-hydroxyhippuric, 3-nitrohippuric, and 3- and 5-nitrosalicyluric acids have been measured. All undergo renal tubular excretory transport, but also tubular reabsorption to a varying degree, depending on their lipoid solubility, which property is greater in the salicyluric acids as a result of internal hydrogen bonding. Both bonded and free forms are present; it is probable that it is the bonded form which is reabsorbed passively; which form(s) is secreted cannot be stated.
