Vitamin D supplementation induces CatG-mediated CD4+ T cell inactivation and restores pancreatic β-cell function in mice with type 1 diabetes

Abstract

We report that vitamin D (VD) supplementation downregulates CatG expression and inhibits CD4+ T cell activation, thereby improving β-cell function in type 1 diabetes (T1D). This study deepens our understanding of the pathogenesis of T1D and clarifies molecular events underlying the alleviatory effect of VD for immunotherapy against T1D.
