Very low-density lipoprotein receptor mediates triglyceride-rich lipoprotein-induced oxidative stress and insulin resistance

Abstract

Obesity is associated with excess lipid deposition in muscles, which is considered as a leading cause of metabolic dysfunction and oxidative stress. Cellular uptake of lipids is regulated by several membrane receptors, among which is the very low-density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR). This article provides information on the role of VLDLR in cardiac muscle and how its expression regulates insulin resistance and oxidative stress in the obese mouse model.
