After a quick look at the history, the paper deals with the beginning of (semi-) professionalisation in the 1990s.The first section describes the advancing commercialisation and its far-reaching consequences since the early 2010s. The second section analyses the economic conditions (spectators, budgets, sale of media rights, sponsors). A brief outlook on development prospects concludes the article.
