Abstract

Abstract The present article emphasizes the role of translation in language transfer, showing that errors can occur in the process of translation due to structural differences in grammar between the source language and the target language. The translator’s cultural competence will also be dealt with in this article showing that it is, on the one hand, objective, i.e. based on techniques which he/she has acquired over time and which are now part of his/her experience and on the other hand, it is subjective, because, as a mediator, he/she creates both the possibilities for translation and the conditions for their realisation. Moreover, I intend to demonstrate that language teaching links language and society because languages are taught and learnt in order to establish contacts and communication situations across linguistic boundaries. Society and culture are therefore more than a background and more than just a situation.
