Abstract
Tellurite glass systems in the form of 10ZnO–(75−x)TeO2–(15+x)PbO with x=5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mol% were prepared using the melt quenching technique. The optical characteristics of the glass were identified by using Ultraviolet Visible Infrared spectroscopy analysis (UV-Vis-NIR) at 200–900 nm. The optical band gap and refractive index were calculated for all glass samples. Values of the direct and indirect band gap range have been found in the range 2·773–3·099 eV and 2·251–2·574 eV with increasing concentration. In addition, the value of the refractive index was found to be between 2·27–2·41. The amorphous state of the glass samples is confirmed using the x-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The bonding characteristics were examined using the Fourier transformation infrared (FTIR) technique in the range 400–4000 cm−1, and it was determined that they were ionic bonding in composition.
