Lithiumpentamolybdate has been characterized by X-ray single crystal structure analysis (300 K). Li4Mo5O17, Mr
= 779.45, triclinic, P[unk], a = 6.7775(1) Å, b = 9.461(1) Å, c = 10.802(2) Å, α = 73.16(2)°, β = 88.98(1)°, γ = 69.760(2)°, V = 619.2(2) Å3, Z = 2, Dx
= 4.181 g cm−3, λ(MoKα
) = 0.71069 Å. The structure consists of stripes of MoO6-octahedra linked together by distorted LiO4-tetrahedra and LiO6-octahedra to form a three-dimensional network.
