The cations of the diazapropellanium salt 1 ([C24H32N2O2+ · 2I− · H2O]) and the triazapropellanium salt 2 ([C31H39N3
2+ · 2I− · 0.5(CH3CN) · 0.72 H2O]) have analogous configurations and conformations. Compound 2 decomposes in the MoKα
X-ray beam. Both compounds contain the known (but rather rare) I−…H2O…I− anion; previously reported manifestations of such interactions are classified in detail.
