Abstract
Abstract
In alkaline solution the sodium salt of 2,3-dimercaptopropanesulfonate (DMPS) is readily adsorbed at the reconstructed Au〈111〉 surface. After determining the PZC of the electrode current transients due to the adsorption have been measured at different electrode potentials. They reveal electronic charge redistribution as well as OH− desorption from the interface. From STM investigations it is concluded that the adsorption involves reorientation in the primarily formed adlayer and slow lifting of the reconstruction. The reductive desorption of DMPS has been observed at −0.97V vs. SCE.
