The crystal structure of Sr[Sb2{(+)-C4H2O6}2] · 2H2O has been determined at room temperature by X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in space group P64 with a = 9.136(2). Å, c = 15.680(5) Å, V = 1133.4 Å3, Dm
= 2.89 Mg m−3, Dc
= 2.898 Mg m−3, Z = 3. The structure has been solved by Patterson and Fourier methods and refined by least-squares calculations to a final R value of 0.025 for 1861 reflexions [(|F
0| ≥ 4σ (F
0)]. The main structural feature is the tartrato(4–)-bridged binuclear complex [Sb2{(+)-C4H2O6}2]2−. The compound is isostructural with the analogous calcium salt.
