Abstract
Abstract
The 2:1 adduct of CuI and 2-methyl pyridine (pic) can be prepared from a stoichiometric mixture of CuI in CH3CN and pic in ethanol at 60° C. It forms colorless, airstable needles, which show a red luminescence (γ
max = 15200 cm−1). (CuI)2 · pic crystallizes monoclinic in the space group P21/c with the lattice constants a = 422.5(2) pm, b = 1079.2(3) pm, c = 2190.7(7) pm, β = 92.67(4)°, Z = 4. It has a “double ribbon” structure with alternating Cu and I atoms. The Cu atoms are tetrahedral coordinated by 4I atoms or 3I atoms and one pic, respectively.
