Abstract
An ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury of small intestine is a serious and common condition that is a result of the blockage of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) because of significant clinical problems. This study evaluated the effect of Mesna on systemic injury induced by ischemia/reperfusion (IR) in small intestine and also in liver, kidney and lung as remote organs. Forty Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four groups: control, ischemia, IR and Mesna. Ischemia period was executed by clamping superior mesenteric artery (SMA) for 2 h and then reperfusion was permitted by removing the clamp from SMA for 2 h.
