Abstract
The use of psychodrama as a therapeutic technique in an acute psychiatric ward setting is described. The value of this technique in releasing suppressed and repressed emotions and conflict in a safe “holding” situation is that it takes advantage of crisis and breakdown. This means that therapeutic pressure can be brought to bear on patients at their most vulnerable stage. In many patients, this leads to a rapid (and, so far, lasting) resolution of crisis.
