Abstract
SummaryThe enzyme thromboplastinase — a phospholipase elaborated by Bacillus cereus has been shown to be an effective antithrombotic in the experimental animal. Present impure preparations of this enzyme are well tolerated by the experimental animal and its quantitative presence in circulating blood has been detected at least 2 days after a single intravenous injection. The effects of this enzyme on the blood coagulation mechanism, methods of assay, and its possible biochemical mode of action as an antithrombotic are discussed.
