Abstract
SummaryThrombi in mesenteric arteries of the rat were produced by electric means. The effectiveness of 4 agents – heparin, aspirin, warfarin, and dipyridamole – in modifying arterial thrombosis was examined with this model. Heparin and aspirin had equivocal beneficial effects. Warfarin had a deleterious effect: the duration of complete occlusion was prolonged. In striking contrast, dipyridamole induced a marked shortening in the duration of complete thrombotic occlusion. On reinjection of the drug, occlusion was almost completely suppressed.
