1. Pilonidal Disease**Barbers’ pilonidal sinus3 occurs on the hand. Application of the word "pilonidal," therefore, which means only "hair nest" (pilus+nidus), is not limited to a condition of the coccygeal region. The term "pilonidal disease," nevertheless, usually denotes a pathologic condition in the region of the coccyx and in that sense we have used it in this article.—The Authors.
