Abstract
An estimated 954 000 people in the UK have dementia. The number of people with dementia is projected to rise to 1.14 million by 2025 and to 2.09 million by 2051, as a result of population ageing ( Prince et al, 2014 ). This article, the first in a series, explains about the different types of diseases that can lead to dementia symptoms and our knowledge regarding the development of dementia symptoms.
