Abstract
The kidneys are essential in excreting the waste products of metabolism and exogenous substances, and controlling the volume and composition of body fluids. The functional unit of the kidney is the nephron, composed of the glomerulus and renal tubules. Multiple assays and methods are available for assessing equine renal function, and understanding the advantages and limitations of each is important for accurate clinical assessment.
