Abstract
Intermittent Self-Catheterisation (ISC) has been in practice for more than 40 years. It is considered the gold standard in the management of urinary retention among patients with neurogenic bladder. Most learned societies agree with the benefits of ISC. The ISC technique is simple but must be rigorous. Therefore, a therapeutic patient education in intermittent self-catheterisation (TPE-ISC) programme is fundamental to ensure the correct technique is taught and learned. Educational diagnosis should be the first step in the TPE-ISC programme and aims to assess the learning abilities and the needs of each patient. This paper proposed a diagnostic approach to screen potential barriers that may alter the learning abilities of patients undergoing ISC.
