Abstract
This second module explores in some detail a number of concepts that can be related to decision-making in prehospital practice. It discusses the concepts of intuition and analysis and the role these approaches can play in the decisions people make. This article also considers heuristics and how these explain how people make decisions. The role of the professional regulator, the Heath and Care Professions Council, and the application of its standards related to paramedic practice are also considered in relation to decision-making. The issue of analysis paralysis and its potential impact on practice is also examined.
